The Eric Ericson Chamber Choir


The Eric Ericson Chamber Choir was founded in 1945 by Eric Ericson, and has ever since held a central position on the Swedish and international music scene. The notable aim of the choir and its leader to continually search out new music and new fields of work has resulted in a wide repertoire today: from renaissance to the latest avant-garde. The Chamber Choir with its characteristic "Nordic" sound and wide ranging virtousity has been the ideal ensemble for several generations of Swedish composers.

Internationally the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir is in the absolute top league of mixed choirs, and it has received numerous international awards, such as Deutsche Schallplattenpreis and the Edison Price. Several tours are made every year and has taken the choir throughout Eutope, USA and Canada. The choir has made numerous recordings of a capella repertoire and is to be found in many record companies´catalogues.

Together with the Swedish Radio Choir the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir has made several recordings with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra - Verdi's Quattro Pezzi Sacri and Mozart's Requiem under Riccardo Muti and Haydn's The Creation and Beethoven's Missa Solemnis under James Levine. Riccardo Muti has also several times brought the choirs to Milan for concerts at La Scala. Furthermore The Eric Ericson Chamber Choir has worked with Concentus Musicus of Vienna and ther conductor Nicolaus Harnoncourt, a cooperation wich has been documented on several recordings, among others a complete Händel's Messiah.

Beside their extensive a capella-projects The Eric Ericson Chamber Choir often collaborates with the Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble. The Eric Ericson Chamber Choir often performs on Swedish radio and televison and has for many years been in the service of the Swedish National radio.
